I was conceived, born and raised right down the pike in Needham, Massachusetts, where I lived long enough to graduate high school there. I was recruited to play soccer at the University of New Hampshire. It was a new Div I team for the school and I played/started for 2 years then was benched when new, younger, stronger, women were brought in…so I…..quit. I am Amy, the quitter. (Hey, my grades went up though). At this point, I had time to hang around UNH’s stellar radio station, WUNH. I moved to Providence (ok Attleboro) and started getting paid to speak on the radio (ok it was at 3am) at the then New KIX 106. Tribe Called Quest, Naughty By Nature, House of Pain, Mary J Blige…ask me anything, you never forget your firsts. I have done radio on Cape Cod, in Albany and Springfield and now my home town, where I had always hoped to land. I have done everything at a radio station from schlepping cases of Coca-Cola and Planters Cheese Puffs to my GM’s office for his own consumption, to broadcasting the weather from a hot air balloon (shaped like a BK Whopper over the Connecticut River Valley) to 3 years straight of red carpet interviewing at the Grammy Awards (including the one where J-Lo introduced her body to the world in a deep cut iridescent dress) to a Red Sox Spring-Training broadcast, from the home team dug out, (that day Nomar asked me to meet him for a bottle of wine after the game. I did of course, but never got the second-date call. Next I knew, he married that shrew Mia Hamm).
I like to ski, run, ride, swim, fish (there’s no place like the beach), golf (my handicap is going down because I don’t work enough, I know, I know, poor me), I plant things and I cook (can’t bake though, it’s too exact. Frankly, I don’t like being told how to do things, which is exactly what a recipe does, no?). My cell phone bill is extraordinary, I don’t have a my-space page because I’m lazy and beets (yes beets) are my favorite vegetable (they go in the color they come out, and I like that). I have developed few skills over the years, outside of anything radio (even those are questionable) except for waitressing. Although the number of stories were comparable, the cash I made fetching swill for drunks in suits back then was better than anything I was making blabbing on the air. But, alas, that was then…(ah the good ol’ days). Now, I work at The Rock of Boston, (thank you WBCN), hardly though could you call this work. I will catch you on just about any and every weekend (could be any time - day or night). Speak to you then, or else e-mail me now. amy@wbcn.com
